July 26th, 2011Solar Energy – The Most Reliable Renewable Energy Source
July 26th, 2011
Renewable energy sources have found a lot of applications these days. One source whose applications have grown by leaps and bounds is solar energy. It has a lot of industrial applications. In remote locations where power is required, solar power can be harnessed effectively. This kind of renewable energy is also used in powering repeater stations for TV and radio. Solar energy is also used in the transportation sector for signaling.
The examples are light houses, off shore navigation buoys and in aircraft warning lights. The solar power is also used to power the traffic lights and street lights on the road. To convert solar energy in to electricity a special group of devices called photovoltaic cells are employed. These cells are interconnected and are made in to panels. For homes, factories and for other large scale purposes these solar panels are used.
These photovoltaic systems are especially suitable for holiday homes and resorts that are not connected to the electricity grid. Remote homes in sunny area can meet the basic electrical needs of lighting along with radio or television. A rechargeable battery is needed to store the power that is captured during the day time.
Solar can also be used to power schools, small clinics and community halls in remote areas. This will be helpful to those people for whom these kinds of resources are inaccessible due to power concerns. Solar energy unlike the conventional sources of energy is non polluting and environment friendly.
In certain countries solar power is also used to power public transport. Small gadgets like calculators and watches which run on solar energy have also been developed. You can save on your electricity bills by installing in your home solar powered garden lights. Solar power is a great way to save the environment.

July 25th, 2011
With coal and other sources slowly depleting, it has now become time for finding another energy source for us to use. There have been many innovations in the technology of alternative energies. But one of the most interesting and environmentally-friendly of them all is solar energy.
The main reason for solar power to be used as an alternative energy source is mainly the fact that it is readily available. In the world, there is always at least some portion receiving sunlight at one point in the day.
Also, people have researched on the energy potential of energy from solar. Since it is in the form of pure heat, it houses enough energy to support multiple cities. Because of this discovery, solar energy has been engineered and further researched to be made practical.
Another important factor of sun energy is its renewability. Since the sun will be around for the next billion years or so, we can benefit from it as an energy source for a long time. Coal has been depleting and some studies have even marked its lifespan to be less than 50 years! Solar energy as an alternative has been an interesting choice people take.
Since solar power energy comes at a natural source, there is little processing involved. This becomes less costly compared to coal-manufacturing processes which require many power plan processes. It simply involves solar panels absorbing the energy. After this, it is converted to electrical energy which then powers your home.
Another advantage is to address the current temperature increase. It can be a way of balancing climates by absorbing the sun’s rays. In doing so, they are used as energy that becomes beneficial to people.
Although sun energy is a cost-free innovation, it has some downsides we should consider. The most obvious of them all is that energy from the sun processes cannot function at night. The light is too weak to be of any use by solar panels. This consequently cuts back its proficiency rate.
In order to combat this, some scientists have invented different ways so that solar panels will be fully maximized during the day. This will allow a significant change in the productivity of solar energy panels.
As people start to look for alternative energy sources, solar power energy has been high on the list of possible sources. It is being refined by the minute so that people can get the most out of this alternative energy.

Materials Which Absorb Solar Energy
July 24th, 2011
Solar energy is simply energy which comes from the sun’s power. This natural energy source can be used for a wide variety of things inside your home. Many people think of using solar energy for their electricity needs, and that is certainly an excellent way to use it. In most cases though, you can actually just use the sun’s energy to help heat your home naturally. Doing this does not require the use of solar panels, solar cells, storage batteries, or any complicated grid setup. Of course you’ll get much more benefit from setting up an actual solar power system using panels and grids, but if you simply want to start utilizing the natural power of the sun today, there are several ways you can do so.
Essentially all you need to do is set up a way to absorb the heat from the sun. In the winter for example, you can start reducing your electric bill by allowing the sun to supply some of the heat for your home. The easiest way to do this is to just open the curtains and allow the sun to shine into your home during the daylight hours. The sunlight will naturally bring warmth, and items inside your home will actually absorb that warmth too. Any items which help absorb the warmth from the sun will also help your house retain some of that heat after the sun goes down.
You’ll have much better results though if you purposely set out to try and absorb as much of the sun’s heat as you can each day. And to do this, you simply need to know which types of materials absorb and retain the sun’s heat easily.
Most types of metal for example will absorb heat quickly and easily. Some metal gets hot faster than others and releases that heat much more slowly. If you lay a sheet of copper in the sun for example, you’ll notice it gets hot quite quickly. Once the sun goes down, the copper will start releasing its heat into the air around it. And this can be used as a natural heating system for your home. You could do the same type of thing with most metals.
Dark colored items also get hot quickly. You may have experienced this yourself in the summertime actually. Getting inside of a vehicle which has black seats will be much hotter to the touch than getting inside of one which has light-colored seats. And you can use this to your advantage when heating your home in the winter time as well. If you have dark colored furniture, then simply positioning them in a location of the room which gets sunlight during the day will allow them to absorb heat. You can also place dark curtains at the window, or position dark pieces of furniture, accents, or decor in the sunlight too.
Other materials which absorb heat very nicely include concrete, brick, Adobe, and water. If you live in a home which has concrete or brick walls for example, those walls will absorb heat from the sun throughout the day and store it. Then as the nighttime coolness creeps in the stored heat will slowly be released which helps maintain a comfortable temperature in your home while using less electricity.
